Summary

The Welding/Grinding Apprentice position begins as an entry level position and progresses into skilled welding and grinding through multiple trainings and hands-on learning opportunities.  This position will advance as skills are gained and abilities increase through the essential job functions listed below.

 

Essential Job Functions / Knowledge, Skills, Abilities (Competencies)

 

Module 1

  • Ability to read a tape measure and blue prints.
  • Basic knowledge of math principles and computer skills. 
  • Responsible for general work procedures in regards to marking and tagging material with proper work order number and heat codes as required.
  • Responsible for labeling incoming material with part number and heat code.
  • Responsible for operating equipment (i.e. rolls, shears, brakes, forming equipment, sandblast, etc.) that is repetitive in nature, requires minimal or routine set up, or set up is performed by someone else.
  • Responsible for operation of overhead cranes and JIB hoists in a safe manner, including selecting appropriate rigging. *Age specific requirement.
  • Responsible to build, assemble, test and repair components, subassemblies and assemblies, etc.
  • Responsible to cut scrap using equipment such as shears, manual plasma cutters, ironworkers, etc.
  • Responsible to perform tack welds and welds in the flat position that meet quality and dimensional standards.
  • Responsible to prepare and sandblast material as needed.
  • Responsible to performs calibration of vessels.
  • Responsible to grind, deburr, bevel and prepare edges or surfaces of material.
  • Responsible to quarter heads and shells with assistance.
  • Satisfactorily complete Manufacturing 101.
  • Satisfactorily complete basic welding and basic grinding.

 

Module 2

  • Basic blueprint reading knowledge.
  • Basic mechanical knowledge and ability.
  • Basic knowledge of product, mechanics, shop mathematics, shop processes and procedures.
  • Basic knowledge of grinding abrasives and material surface finishes.
  • Basic knowledge to understand and work from drawings and/or specifications with proficiency.
  • Responsible to setup, operate and maintain manual welding, grinding and/or cutting equipment.
  • Responsible to recognize, setup and operate hand and power tools common to the industry.
  • Responsible to quarter heads and shells independently.
  • Responsible to examine work pieces for defects and measure work pieces to ensure conformance to specifications.
  • Responsible to monitor welding procedures to avoid warping, shrinking or otherwise distorting weldments.
  • Responsible to position and secure work pieces using overhead cranes, hoists, fork lifts, etc. 

*Age specific requirement.

  • Responsible to grind to a # 4 finish using procedures typically determined by others.
  • Responsible to setup, operate and maintain outer diameter pipe polishing equipment.
  • Responsible to setup, operate and maintain flat bar polishing equipment.
  • Satisfactorily complete intermediate welding and basic grinding.
  • Intermediate knowledge of grinding abrasives and material surface finishes.
  • Intermediate knowledge to understand and work from drawings and/or specifications with proficiency.
  • Responsible to perform difficult and unusual manual and machine welding operations in all positions on a wide range of metals and alloys, including layout and fit up. 
  • Responsible to fuse dissimilar metals, maximize weld strength, avoid distortion and conform with exacting tolerances and specifications. 
  • Satisfactorily complete advanced welding and grinding.
  • Advanced knowledge of grinding abrasives and material surface finishes.
  • Advanced knowledge and understanding of work from drawings and/or specifications with proficiency.
  • Ability to grind to a # 7 finish using procedures as determined.
  • Responsible to determine welding procedures to avoid warping, shrinking or otherwise distorting weldments.
  • Responsible to setup, operate and maintain manual or automatic welding, grinding and/or cutting equipment.
  • Responsible to recognize, setup and operate hand and power tools common to the industry.
  • Responsible to examine work pieces for defects and measure work pieces to ensure conformance to specifications.
  • Responsible to position and secure work pieces using overhead cranes, hoists, fork lifts, etc.

 

Module 3

  • Intermediate blueprint reading knowledge.
  • Intermediate mechanical knowledge and ability.
  • Intermediate knowledge of product, mechanics, shop mathematics, shop processes and procedures.
  • Intermediate knowledge, skills and ability on press brakes, shears, rolls and various forming equipment.       
  • Intermediate knowledge in physical properties of metal, effects of heat, allowances for thickness, weld shrinkage and welding techniques.
  • Responsible to operate mobile crane equipment with the capacity of less than 20,000 lbs. and directs the rigging and hoisting of equipment. *Age specific requirement.
  • Responsible to set up and operate machines to make production parts to standard shop blueprints.
  • Responsible to perform welding, grinding and cutting operations.  Care required in blocking, clamping and holding parts to avoid distortion and conform with tolerances and specifications. 
  • Responsible for grinding where grade and type of abrasives are determined by others.
  • Responsible for quartering heads and shells for fit-up and determine degrees and location of fittings and nozzles.
  • Responsible to operate spray foam insulating, painting, and sandblast equipment.
  • Responsible to operate machines that require minimal skills and experience, such as presses, shears, saws, rolls, etc.
  • Responsible to layout, locate and mark bending lines, construct templates and patterns.

 

Module 4

  • Advanced knowledge in skill, abilities and knowledge in welding, grinding, machine operation, etc.
  • Advanced knowledge to read, interpret and work from blueprints, sketches or other specifications.
  • Advanced mechanical knowledge and ability.
  • Advanced knowledge of product, mechanics, shop mathematics, shop processes and procedures.
  • Advanced knowledge and ability to shape, cut or form metal to fabricate complex parts using press brakes, shears, rolls and various forming equipment.

  • Responsible for proper use of outer diameter pipe polishing and flat bar polishing equipment.
  • Responsible to perform difficult and unusual manual and machine welding operations in all positions on a wide range of metals and alloys, including layout and fit up.
  • Act as a mentor to newer or less skilled coworkers.

The Business Unit Manager will manage the assigned Product Line, developing and managing the product line’s business plan. The responsibilities of the Business Unit Manager include increasing the profitability of existing products to developing new products for the company. The Business Unit Manager utilizes existing ideas to assist in the development of new ideas based on industry experience and contacts with current and potential customers. The Business Unit Manager must possess business and technical skills, the ability to visualize strategic and long-term objectives, and the drive to make that vision a reality. They must enjoy spending time in the market to understand its problems, and actively engage in innovative problem solving activities. 

 

The Business Unit Manager must be able to communicate with all areas of the company and will serve as the internal and external liaison for the assigned product line. The Business Unit Manager directs the Product Line in its daily activities while frequently working with sales and key accounts.

 

Manages the entire product line from strategic planning to tactical activities. Develops the product line by identifying potential products, conducting market research, generating product requirements, determining specifications, developing production timetables, evaluating pricing structures to achieve the product line’s financial objectives, creating and implementing time-integrated plans for product introduction, and developing marketing strategies.

 

Essential Job Functions

  • Prepares short-term and long-term product sales forecasts and special reports and analyses; answering questions and requests.
  • Manages Product Line staff including counseling and disciplining employees; planning, monitoring, and appraising job performance.
  • Determines customers' needs by specifying the research needed to obtain market information, developing and implementing systems to obtain research, and analyzing the outcomes.
  • Facilitates inventory turnover and product availability by reviewing and adjusting inventory levels and production schedules in order to meet the business unit objectives.
  • Recommends future product offerings by reviewing current product specifications and requirements, and evaluating market trends; appraising new product ideas and/or product or packaging changes.
  • Assesses product market data by calling on customers with field salespeople and evaluating sales call results.
  • Obtains product market share by working with sales to develop product sales strategies.
  • Provides source data for product line communications by defining product marketing communication objectives.
  • Assesses market competition by comparing the company's product to competitors' products.
  • Introduces and markets new products by developing time-integrated plans with sales, advertising, and production.
  • Completes operational requirements by scheduling and assigning employees; following up on work results.
  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related tasks as needed.
  • Maintains Product Line staff by recruiting, selecting, orienting, and training employees.
  • Determines product pricing by utilizing market research data, reviewing production and sales costs, anticipating volume, and costing special and customized orders.
  • Brings new products to market by analyzing proposed product requirements and product development programs, by preparing return-on-investment analyses, and establishing time schedules with engineering and manufacturing.
  • Work closely with the General Manager insuring the alignment of the Product Line and Paul Mueller Company objectives. This position is to assist in the protection and promotion of the interests of the Paul Mueller Company as a whole.
  • Regular, in-person attendance due to necessary teamwork and personal interactive nature of this position.
  • Position requires travel up to 20% with possible international travel.  Actual travel time will depend on the needs of the product line and what is required to meet the business plan objectives.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.

Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering with background in Thermodynamics desired.  A minimum of three years related experience is required for this position.

Base Compensation Range: $152,487 - $260,834 annually 

Variable Compensation Range: Incentive bonus eligibility up to 12% of gross annual salary base on company performance.

Travel throughout the United States and Canada while operating newer equipment and enjoy being home most weekends.  The Over the Road Driver position is responsible for the delivery of our stainless steel products directly to our customers.  This position is responsible for safe loading and unloading of the product as well as securing loads for travel.  The Over the Road Driver must comply with all safety and transportation rules and regulations for all of North America and Canada established by the Department of Transportation. 

 Essential Job Functions

  • Long distance driving with oversized loads throughout North America and Canada.
  • Assist with loading and unloading equipment and product as needed.
  • Ensure all loads are secure utilizing chains, straps, tarps, etc.
  • Assist with assembling and disassembling trailers as needed.
  • Communicate with customer as needed.
  • Ensure customer deliveries arrive on time and as expected.
  • Communicate with Mueller Transportation operations team as needed. 
  • Maintain a detailed log of working hours to ensure compliance with state and federal rules and regulations.
  • Comply with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) rules and regulations.
  • Must maintain a valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License.
  • The ability to work in a constant state of alertness & safe manner.

  •  Shape, cut or form metal to fabricate complex parts using press brake, shear, roll, dishing machine, flanging equipment and various forming equipment.  Layout, locate and mark bending lines, construct templates and patterns
  •  Set up or assist lower classifications in setting up machines
  •  Operate mobile crane equipment with the capacity of greater than 20,000 lbs. and directs the rigging and hoisting of equipment
  •  Finish grinding where grade and type of abrasive must be determined. Finish and compliance to specifications are critical
  •  Perform other duties requiring similar skills and abilities as assigned
  •  Guide and train other employees in any classification to improve their skills and perpetuate the trade

Shift Differential: $2.00 per hour 

Variable Compensation Range:  Incentive bonus eligibility up to 12% of gross annual salary base on company performance (as of 2024).

The Designer II is a mid-level designer position that performs design and layout work, usually for more than one large-scope project and/or smaller-scope projects.

Essential Job Functions

  • Convert project information (e.g., specifications, general sales order information, data sheets, etc.) into drawings and other documentation that manufacturing uses to produce a product.
  • Generate parts lists, requisitions, and other ERP records necessary to convert design information into system demands.
  • Review sales orders and customer specifications.
  • Evaluate technical requirements for the economy of construction.
  • Identify deviations in job scope, estimate the magnitude of changes, and notify the appropriate parties.
  • Provide technical support for Manufacturing.
  • Assure that design continuity is maintained throughout the entire project.
  • Ensure written and verbal communication is maintained within engineering and with other design and engineering disciplines.
  • Ensure accuracy and consistency of drawings by reviewing and verifying technical data and calculations consistent with design quality control procedures.
  • Maintain organized and up-to-date project files and project status communication.
  • Adhere to company standards and industry best practices for drafting and design.
  • Participate in team meetings and contribute to project discussions and brainstorming sessions.
  • Leverage knowledge of Designer III regarding design details, modeling practices, drawing development, design for quality, and design for manufacturing and assembly.
  • Mentor and guide Designer I, offering support and feedback to enhance their skills and performance.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of CAD software and industry trends to apply best practices and innovative solutions.

  • Overtime may be necessary and required and is dependent on workload.

The Electrical Engineer I is an entry level engineer who is responsible for multiple lower-level projects or a single large project that support the business through designing, developing, and testing electrical equipment and systems.  This position develops and implements process automation, schematics and panel designs through a variety of software programs with the oversight of an Electrical Engineer II, Electrical Engineer III or Senior Controls Engineer.   This position is also responsible for validating the electrical design for reliability, performance, and safety standards. 

                              

Essential Job Functions

  • Support the business unit through electrical design activities.
  • Perform programming activities through Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC), Programmable Automation Controllers (PAC) and/or Operator Interface Terminal (OIT) as needed.
  • Configure and program instrumentations required to complete projects.
  • Assist electrical team in conduit routing and installation details as required to complete department projects.
  • Document processes and procedures to support the business needs which may include development of various operating instruction or manuals.
  • Electrical, mechanical, and process installation and troubleshooting of simple projects to support the business.  This may include the use of hand tools, gauges, multi-meters, and other measurement devices. 
  • Collaborate with customers as required to promote successful project execution, including but not limited to discussion with customer engineers and Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) Protocol execution.
  • Develop quotes to support sales and marketing activities.
  • Collaborate with other professional disciplines throughout the business on technical inquires and needs.
  • Provide electrical support throughout the production processes as needed. 
  • Ensures lessons learned applied to future efforts.
  • Provide training and guidance to electricians as needed.
  • Leverage knowledge of Electrical Engineer II, III or Senior Controls Engineer in regards to electrical methodology, skills, and tools. 
  • Performs other related duties as required and assigned.
  • Travel including international, could be up to 15% as required by the project or other needs.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license for travel.
  • Regular, in-person attendance due to necessary teamwork and personal interactive nature of this position.

A Fabricator is responsible for basic cutting, shaping, welding and grinding of metal to form tanks, vessels and their components according to blueprints and specifications, while adhering to quality standards.  This position may have previous experience operating basic hand and power tools.  Additionally, knowledge of painting, sandblasting, shipping, receiving and assembling of products may be required.

Summary

The Regional Sales Manager is responsible for direct sales of assigned products within the Refrigeration product line, typically through our established customer and where applicable the dealer network. The individual in this position must have a broad technical knowledge of the Company’s products by virtue of technical education and experience. This position requires working with Dealers, as well as end customers, defining technical capabilities, application suitability, process requirements, system design considerations, defining specifications, etc., as needed in selling the Company’s products. The individual must exercise considerable independent technical and commercial judgment over sales projects within an assigned region of the division. The position requires up to 50% to 75% travel including foreign travel for customer presentations, sales support and service consultation is required.

The Senior Maintenance Specialist works as part of a team performing preventative maintenance and mechanical or electrical repairs on machinery, vehicle or facility repairs. This position is responsible for leadership and mentorship of Maintenance Specialists and Technicians.

Summary

The Inventory Control Analyst position is responsible for maintaining accurate inventory of all incoming, outgoing and in-stock products and supplies throughout operations. This position will interface heavily with purchasing, planning and manufacturing to maximize receiving efficiencies and inventory accuracy.  

 

Essential Job Functions

  • Maintain accurate, timely, inventory of all standard stock items and raw material used throughout operations.
  • Maintain and enforce all processes related to items coming into and out of inventory. 
  • Investigate and resolve inconsistencies with inventory.
  • Facilitate analysis and take appropriate action regarding slow moving inventory as needed or required.
  • Minimize inventory loss by incorporating best supply chain practices.
  • Make recommendations to leadership about improvements in inventory life cycle.
  • Review inventory frequently to minimize unnecessary or slow-moving inventory. 
  • Assist with inventory management including inventory adjustments, cycle counting, and other inventory related tasks as necessary to ensure inventory is aligned and avoid large variances.
  • Facilitate appropriate changes to existing work orders.
  • Actively seek out opportunities for process improvement regarding inventory control. 
  • Attend and contribute to open book management.
  • Perform other related duties, as needed and assigned, including backup for other department personnel, to ensure support of the production plan.
  • Regular, in-person attendance due to necessary teamwork and personal interactive nature of this position.  This position is not eligible to work from home.

 

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities (Competencies)

  • Possess a working knowledge of engineering prints and manufacturing capacity to effectively determine need dates for components.
  • Knowledge of the master data that drives forecasting, planning, scheduling, and shipping within an ERP system.

Education and Experience

  • A bachelor’s degree in Materials Management or similar discipline (business, manufacturing systems, engineering supply chain management) preferred but not required. 
  • Two (2) to five (5) years’ experience in inventory management or manufacturing planning required. 

Base Compensation Range: $59,159 - $88,739 annually

Variable Compensation Range: Incentive bonus eligibility up to 12% of gross annual salary base on company performance.

The Welder / Grinder is responsible for basic understanding and competency in welding and grinding of a variety of different metals, shapes, tanks, vessels, piping, components, etc. This position performs precision smoothing, polishing, and grinding of surfaces.

Essential Job Functions
•    Set up, operate, and maintain manual welding, grinding, and/or cutting equipment.  
•    Set up and operate hand and power tools common to the industry.  
•    Inspect and perform quality checks to ensure conformance to established tolerances and specifications.
•    Perform inspection of work pieces for quality defects and communicate appropriately. 
•    Perform welding and grinding procedures accurately to avoid warping, shrinking, and distortion.
•    Position and secure work pieces safely using overhead cranes, hoists, and other appropriate lifting devices.
•    Grind work pieces to a #4 (32 RA) finish using approved safety processes and procedures.
•    Set up, perform, and maintain various types of polishing equipment as needed. 
•    Obtain and maintain at least one ASME Certification to be used as required.
•    Meet all company quality standards and follow defined SOP’s.
•    Regular, in-person attendance due to necessary teamwork and personal interactive nature of this position. 
•    Overtime is a mandatory condition of employment and frequent in this position. 
•    The ability to work in a constant state of alertness and safe manner. 
•    All other duties as assigned.
